They are guidance for typical homes, not building code. Local codes, product manuals, and site conditions always take priority over a general guide.

What we promise in every guide

• Concrete figures instead of vague adjectives wherever a figure exists.
• A clear note when a number is a convention you can bend, not a hard rule.
• No sponsored placements inside editorial copy.
• Plain American English, written to be useful, not to fill space.

Corrections

When a reader or an editor finds an error, we correct the article itself. Send corrections through the contact page with the article name and the line in question.
